A Silent Film Halloween at Newberry Opera House
The Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra is “the premier American ragtime ensemble” as hailed by “The Washington Post,” and is one of America’s few professional ensembles dedicated to the preservation of America’s first popular music: Ragtime. “Spooky Silents” will feature haunting movies accompanied by a live performance from Peacherine.
This orchestra recreates the sounds of the concert stage, the dance halls, and the theatre with – ragtime, dance music, theatre selections, and silent film accompaniment, all performed off the original musical scores. Founded in 2010, by a young virtuoso, Andrew Greene, this orchestra is being widely praised for its work to preserve and share America’s rich musical history, and tours the U.S. with their toe-tapping concert and silent film program.
“Spooky Silents: A Silent Film Halloween” – Scare up some fun as Peacherine underscores two ghostly silent films from the 1920s with live music and sound effects: Laurel & Hardy’s HABEAS CORPUS (1928), and Buster Keaton’s THE HAUNTED HOUSE (1921), combined with ghoulishly delightful ragtime classics. Be sure to bring the kids in their Halloween costumes!
