The South Carolina State Museum and ColaJazz invite you to Drink Small’s 90th Birthday Bash! We are honored to host Drink Small’s 90th birthday party that includes a tribute performance by fellow SC blues legend, Mac Arnold and a show stopping set from “The Blues Doctor” himself, Drink Small.

Drink Small is a living legend. He has toured the nation, written hundreds of songs and made dozens of recordings with just as many awards and accolades, including an NEA National Heritage Fellowship. Through it all, this Bishopville, SC born guitar slinger has remained a devoted member of his community here in South Carolina. His unique sound blends the light-finger picking style of the Piedmont Blues with gospel, boogie woogie, rhythm and more. During his career he has appeared with musical luminaries like The Staple Singers, Wilson Pickett, Clarence Carter and Sam Cooke. He has performed at legendary festivals and venues like the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and the Apollo Theater. At 90 years old, despite being blind, he still thrills crowds. Drink’s only wish for his 90th birthday is that you show your love and support by coming to his party and celebrating with him!

Performer Mac Arnold was born in Ware Place, SC, and his first band included another famous South Carolinian, James Brown. As a young musician in Chicago, he toured with Muddy Waters and recorded with Otis Spann and John Lee Hooker. He later moved to Los Angeles where he produced Soul Train with Don Cornelius, played bass on Sanford & Son and performed with Otis Redding and B. B. King. Today, at the age of 80, Arnold lives in Pelzer, SC, and leads his band “Mac Arnold & Plate Full O’ Blues.”
