Music lovers and jazz enthusiasts can enjoy a live performance of Bebop in an upcoming concert on Allen University’s campus. On Sunday, Feb. 24 at 4 p.m., the Allen University Jazz Ensemble will blend the era of Bebop with present day culture in “Manteca: A Modern Bebop Revue.” The concert is free and will be held in Chappelle Auditorium (1530 Harden St., Columbia).
Inspired by author Horace Mungin’s “Swing, Hard Bop, Bop & Bebop,” the performance will feature poetry, narration and dance. Mungin’s book, a historical jazz resource book, profiles the musicians who created Bebop and contributed to that magical era. The music of jazz legends, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and more will light up the stage.
Though free to the public, reservations are highly encouraged. To reserve your seat today, visit allenuniversity.edu.
