Jazz Kissa Trio – Take 2

May 5 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Jazz Kissa Trio | A Renewal Space.

We are back for a second live performance at the Windermere Club (see below exact location and reservations info). For those of you who have yet to experience the Jazz Kissa Trio chemistry… We hope you will join us. Read on for some backdrop!

Our name. Harks back to the Japanese jazu kissa (= jazz café) coffee shops or bars of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, where gathering and listening to Great American Songbook recordings was the thing.

Our motivation. Twofold, it interweaves a passion for the genre and a wish to honor a loss. Bernard Michael Schutzman was a great aficionado of the Great American Songbook. “If you can walk out humming the tune…” he would say. These living timeless tunes are for you, Dad.

Our cat approved cats.

On the bass… Oǧuz Gel is a budding jazz player who from the age of 15 has engaged with music in varied settings. A published author, radio and TV personality, Oǧuz holds a BA in mechanical engineering and MA in economic theory.

On the piano…. Shannon Pinkney, aka True Blue or Deon Blue, chose music as his realm at a young age. A native of Orangeburg, South Carolina, he holds a degree in music theory from Newberry College and has performed in these here Columbia waters since 2010.

On the drums… İlker Işıkyakar, founder of the Jazz Kissa Trio, is a composer, performer, music producer, and experimentalist, who earned a degree in music production and sound engineering at Berklee College of Music. He also holds a BA in civil engineering and MA in city planning.
