Richland One to Host Annual Jazz Festival in the Park

Richland One’s annual Jazz Festival showcasing district students and directors is scheduled for Friday, April 1 from 4-8 p.m. at Emily Douglas Park at 2500 Wheat St. in Columbia. The event is free and open to the public.

April is National Jazz Appreciation Month and the district takes the opportunity each year to celebrate the heritage and history of jazz music. Groups scheduled to perform include: A.C. Flora High School’s Jazz Band; Crayton Middle School’s Jazz Ensemble; Dreher High School and Hand Middle School’s Combined Jazz Band; Eau Claire High School and Heyward Gibbes Middle School’s Combined Jazz Band; Lower Richland High School and Hopkins Middle School’s Combined Jazz Band; W.G. Sanders Middle School’s Jazz Band; and Southeast Middle School’s Jazz Band. There will also be a special performance by the Richland One Faculty Jazz Band.

There will be food vendors on hand and, in case of inclement weather, the event will be held at Hand Middle School.
