LATIN JAZZ ADULT COMBO
Led by Cuban pianist, vocalist, arranger, composer & bandleader, Iliana Rose, this combo class invites musicians to learn the rhythms and improvisation techniques of Latin Jazz.
Participants will play in an ensemble, learning key skills in:
Rhythms & Percussion: Clave patterns and Latin percussion essentials.
Montuno & Tumbao: Developing piano and bass grooves unique to Latin Jazz.
Improvisation: Crafting solos with Latin rhythms and jazz harmonies.
Latin Jazz Classics: Exploring iconic tunes and styles like mambo, cha-cha, and Afro-Cuban.
History & Culture: Discovering the genre's roots and influential artists.
Ensemble & Performance: Building ensemble cohesion and stage presence.
With a blend of theory and hands-on playing, this class offers a deep dive into Latin Jazz for musicians eager to broaden their style and skills.
PREREQUISITES...
Before enrolling, please ensure you meet the following requirements. We strongly urge potential students to honestly assess their skills, as these prerequisites are crucial for keeping pace with the class:
Ability to comfortably read music
Thorough knowledge of your instrument, including all notes and fingerings
Proficiency in major and minor scales and chords
Skill in easily following lead sheets, charts, and roadmaps
This class is designed for dedicated musicians looking to push their boundaries.

ABOUT ILIANA ROSE
Based in Greenville, SC, Iliana Rose, a Cuban-American musician born in Miami, began playing music at age four and later graduated in performance from the University of Miami and the National Piano Guild. During her years in Los Angeles, she led her own Cuban Jazz Band and collaborated with top industry musicians like Calixto Oviedo, Alain Perez, and Pedro Calvo.
As a musical director, Iliana has led projects from traditional Cuban music to all-female salsa orchestras and was the pianist and music director for the national TV show *Noches Con Platanito*. She also composes for film and manages her own publishing company, In Step Original Music. Currently, Iliana directs the JazzArts Nuestro Tiempo Latin Jazz Youth Ensemble and serves on the board of the Sigal Music Museum in Greenville, SC.
