Description
The ColaJazz Foundation is at the forefront of promoting jazz in the Midlands, dedicated to fostering a vibrant cultural community through events, education, and advocacy. Since its inception in 2015, the foundation has worked tirelessly to position Columbia, SC, as a premier jazz destination in the Southeast. By connecting world-renowned musicians and educators with local talent and audiences, ColaJazz creates diverse and engaging experiences that celebrate the rich history and innovation of jazz. With an annual lineup featuring a summer jazz camp, the ColaJazz Fest, after-school programs, and numerous live performances, the foundation enriches the community and provides opportunities for everyone—from budding musicians to enthusiastic listeners.
Under the leadership of founder and Executive Director Mark Rapp, a celebrated jazz trumpeter and South Carolina Jazz Ambassador, ColaJazz has gained national recognition for its contributions to the arts, including the prestigious Governor’s Award for the Arts in 2021. Rapp, who has performed alongside jazz legends and contributed to acclaimed projects, aims to make jazz accessible and engaging for all. The foundation is also committed to cultural equity, ensuring that artistic expression is inclusive and equitable for individuals of all backgrounds. Through its innovative programming and community outreach, the ColaJazz Foundation nurtures a love for jazz and inspires future generations to embrace this iconic American art form.
