ABOUT THE ARTIST
Eric Jones is a highly accomplished musician, composer, and educator whose diverse talents have left an indelible mark on the music world. A Georgia native, Jones began his musical journey at an early age, demonstrating a natural aptitude for piano by ear at five and later mastering the trumpet. He honed his skills through rigorous academic study, earning a B.A. in Piano from Armstrong Atlantic State University and a Master's in Composition from Georgia Southern University.
Jones's career is marked by collaborations with an impressive array of artists, including Grammy Award-winner Esperanza Spalding, Stewart Copeland of The Police, and operatic talents Keith Miller and Rachel Waiters, among others. His compositional prowess was highlighted in 2011 when he was commissioned by the Savannah Children’s Choir to create "Songs of Creation," a piece based on James Weldon Johnson's "The Creation," which premiered to acclaim in 2012.
In 2019, Jones released his debut album, "Azubuike," an Igbo term meaning "the past is our strength," showcasing his dynamic trio. His deep involvement in the Savannah music scene is evident through his work with the Savannah Music Festival's Musical Explorers and the Savannah Jazz Festival, culminating in his role as Interim Music Director for the SMF Jazz Academy. A dedicated member of the Savannah Jazz Orchestra for over five years, Jones's significant contributions were formally recognized in 2020 with his induction into the Savannah Jazz Hall of Fame, placing him among luminaries like James Moody and Ben Tucker.
Currently, Eric Jones shares his extensive knowledge as an educator at Savannah State University while maintaining a vibrant performance schedule and expanding his artistic reach into various media, including music for podcasts and videos.
