jazz album of the week

This week we feature a not-as-well-known recording by saxophonist Dexter Gordon, "Dexter Calling"!

Recorded in 1961 on Blue Note Records, you really can't get any better than this lineup. From a great handful of standards to Gordon originals, this album is must for jazz fans. Backing Dexter is actually the same rhythm section as heard on John Coltrane's seminal "Blue Train". Dexter, as per usual, is playing will full force and conviction while all members of the rhythm section are on the top of their game. Truly a 5 star recording!

Personnel:

Dexter Gordon- tenor saxophone

Kenny Drew- piano

Paul Chambers- bass

Philly Joe Jones- drums
