This week we feature a 1957 release by trombonist J.J. Johnson, "First Place"

Recorded in 1957 on the Columbia label, "First Place" is a seminal recording featuring Johnson in some of his very best playing. Accompanied by an all star rhythm section, this sessions finds Johnson playing standards such as "For Heavens Sake" and "Be My Love" as well as originals such as "Commutation" (based on Charlie Parkers "Confirmation").
