Jazz Camp 2020 Roundup

Our 4th annual Summer Jazz Camp was anything but normal and what an amazing thing that was! Offering 48 courses over four days, we had 21 faculty ranging from acclaimed local jazz educators to NEA Jazz Masters and GRAMMY-award nominees teaching from New Orleans, New York, California, Missouri and South Carolina. Students were tuning in from Sweden, Canada, Ukraine, California, Wyoming, New Orleans, New York, North and South Carolina.

The 2020 ColaJazz Summer Jazz Camp had something for everyone. Participants were able to create their own unique jazz camp experience. Courses ranged from Jazz History, Advanced Rhythm & Metric Concepts, Personal Finance for Musicians to a Master Class with NEA Jazz Master Dave Liebman and everything in between!

Priced at $15 per course, there were jazz camp courses for the novice, professional to the jazz enthusiast furthering their appreciation and knowledge of jazz. Thanks to anonymous sponsors, we also offered a FREE Saturday morning program for our youngest jazzers ages 0-9!

Martin Luther King, Jr. stated, "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." The ColaJazz Foundation stepped up from the very beginnings of the COVID19-pandemic. We have pushed forward ensuring jazz programming and engagement for our community and work for our musicians and educators. The ColaJazz Foundation continually presents and supports jazz initiatives and (with great thanks to many) was the only SC Jazz organization to have offered a summer jazz camp in 2020.

Please consider supporting our efforts today. Thank you!

Special thanks to the SC Arts Commission, Hilton Jazz Jazz Academy, Junior Jazz Foundation and Charleston Jazz for supporting our 2020 summer jazz camp efforts.
