ColaJazz Creates More Gigs for Local Jazz Musicians
Columbia, SC, August 14th, 2017:
ColaJazz.com founder Mark Rapp is determined to grow Columbia’s jazz scene. Now, Mark Rapp (2016 Jasper Magazine’s Artist of the Year in Music) and Rosso Trattoria owner Richard Couture, are teaming up to offer three new jazz happenings at this popular Forest Acres restaurant.

LAST WEDNESDAY JAZZ WITH THE MARK RAPP TRIO, 6:30pm – 9:30pm
The Mark Rapp Trio will play the last Wednesday of every month.
“Last Wednesday Jazz” and “ColaJazz Thursdays at Rosso” kicks off August 30th and 31st respectively. Vocalist Amanda Mayo and guitarist Greg Patterson will be the very first duo to perform and launch the “ColaJazz Thursdays at Rosso”. The Mark Rapp Trio will play once a month on the last Wednesday of every month. All shows feature Columbia-area artists every week from 6:30pm – 9:30pm. There is no cover and no minimum. “We’re rotating through our roster of bandleaders, important figures in our growing jazz scene and those who are involved in making Columbia a jazz destination,” said Rapp, an internationally known jazz trumpeter. Rapp and Rosso Trattoria owner Richard Couture are hoping the restaurant will become known not only for its cuisine but also as one of the city’s main jazz venues.
“We’ve offered live music to our guests in various ways and this new series takes things to the next level,” said Couture. “Rosso has a wonderful ambience for live jazz and it compliments our foods and wines brilliantly. We think our guests will love experiencing the range and diversity of this jazz series and enjoy the deeper cultural experience.”

ColaJazz.com was born from Mark Rapp’s goal to organize and bolster the Columbia, SC, jazz community through recordings, events, and education. Its website, colajazz.com, is already the resource for all things jazz as presented by the talented and accomplished jazz artists and educators active in the Midlands and houses the city’s only dedicated jazz calendar. Mark Rapp’s “Wednesday Night ColaJazz Artists Series” at the Main Street Public House has been successfully running every week for nearly a year now and there’s no end in sight. Rapp also successfully created and launched the first annual USC ColaJazz Camp, a weekend jazz camp which had over 45 students of all ages, levels and demographics attending and featured GRAMMY-winner Delfeayo Marsalis as its master clinician. ColaJazz’s first recording, the all-star ColaJazz vol.1, was created with the help of Paul Bodamer at Jangly Records with funding from fans, friends, and family. It features 13 groups comprising 28 local jazz musicians. Vol. 2 has been recorded and will be released this year. Rapp is currently in talks with Trae Judy of the Music Farm to create and launch an annual jazz festival tentatively slated for February 2018.
