jazz album of the week

Hit Me! This week we feature an album by none other than the Godfather of Soul, James Brown and his 1970 release "Soul on Top'!

Released in 1970 on the King label, we find James Brown backed by an all star big band featuring jazzmen such as Ray Brown, Louis Bellson, Jimmy Cleveland, and arrangements by Oliver Nelson! Featuring a mix of showtunes, jazz standards, and Browns on hit "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag", this recording is a snapshot of jazz in the 1970's mixing pop and jazz flavors into the mainstream musical pool.
