Jazz album of the week

his week we feature a true gem of an album, pianist Freddie Redd's "Shades of Redd"

Recorded in 1960 for the Blue Note Label, this session is an all-Redd original set. Next to his original music for the play "The Connection, this is perhaps his best known recording. Surrounded by an all star cast, this session also features one of the few recordings done by saxophonist Tina Brooks. This album exhibits many moods of jazz, from the blues, to ballads, to up tempo intensity.
