Musician spotlight

This week we feature drummer Ron T. Green! Ron can be heard in a wide variety of musical settings from playing jazz to R&B as well as with the Cotton Town Soul Society. Ron is also Assistant Director of Bands at Benedict College. We asked Ron some important questions-

When did you start playing?

-I began playing drums at age 6 but started formal training at age 11.

What was some of the first music you loved?

-With deep childhood roots, in church, gospel music became my first love.

If you could pick a different instrument to play what would you choose and why?

-Bass guitar because it, along with the drums, helps establish a foundational groove that is important to me.

What are you listening to these days?

-Nothing in particular, unless it's something I have to learn for a gig. Other than that, I listen to a lot of Sirius XM Radio.

Where was the coolest place you've ever played?

-Various venues during a European tour I worked on.

Who is a musician you think other people should know about?

-Nate Smith

What is keeping you busy these days (musically and non)?

-Helping manage a collegiate band program and enrolling in a masters program.
