jazz album of the week

This week we feature an album by lesser-known west coast pianist Carl Perkins- "Introducing Carl Perkins"!

Recorded in 1955 on the Dootone label, this introductory recording by Perkins (not the country music star) is a beautifully swinging set of standards and originals. Backed by 2 west coast all stars on bass and drums, Perkins plays with enthusiasm and fire, despite having a crippled left arm from polio. A highlight is his rendition of the seldom played ballad "Lilacs in the Rain".

Personnel:

Carl Perkins- piano

Leroy Vinnegar- bass

Lawrence Marable- drums
